We’ve been working with Stella Artois™ for many years. We have manufactured for them millions of one of the most recognizable beer glasses in the world, the Stella Chalice with the golden rim. So creating a different Stella glass presented us with an intriguing challenge.
Stella Artois™ gave us the brief: Create a reassuringly expensive beer glass. We thought why not ‘the World’s most expensive’ beer glass? And so we designed and developed a $500 limited-edition chalice, a chalice that exemplified their clear market position.
Realising this idea proved the real problem. How does one make a glass that’s worth $500? What If we asked ourselves. What if we incorporated an added-value material into the glass? Our first thought was a diamond, brilliant, dazzling and luxurious, and that happens to be the only material that doesn’t melt at 1500 degrees Celsius.
The problem was that a $500 diamond is too small to notice, especially in a glass.
And then we thought of Swarovski™ Crystals; no less alluring than diamonds and can be used in semi-abundance for the price. Only problem – the melting issue. Together with the Swarovski team, we found the solution. The crystals were weaved on an invisible string, then glued to the glass in a pattern that could be duplicated 2000 times, the number of limited edition glasses ordered.
The resulting Stella Swarovski Limited Edition Chalice™ is the only double-handmade glass in the world. The chalice itself is hand-blown crystal and the Swarovski Crystals are embedded by-hand. A true luxury item and reassuringly expensive in every sense.
We strengthen Stella Artois’ market position by creating a collector’s item that in itself became the hook for an extremely successful PR campaign.
